Patterns for trumpet and percussion (duration: 8′)

I. Argyle (piccolo trumpet and snare drum)
II. Herringbone (flugelhorn and marimba)
III.Paisley (trumpet and drumset)

Patterns is a three-movement piece for trumpet and percussion inspired
by three textile patterns. The first movement features angular lines and
cross-rhythms between the piccolo trumpet and snare drum, the second
draws its up-and-down arpeggiations in the marimba from the
zigzagging seen in the herringbone pattern, and the third movement,
inspired by colorful and freeform paisley patterns, includes guided
improvisation in the trumpet solo and playful back-and-forth between
the trumpet and drumset.
