Cantilever is a short solo for drumset written as part of my project to take on “mini-commissions” for unaccompanied works during the spring and summer of 2020.

Cantilever explores variations on a theme established at the beginning of the piece, with each variation separated by short episodes in varying styles. The architectural structure after which this piece is titled is fixed at one end and free at the other, similar to how the rondo-like nature of the music has fixed elements in the theme and its elaborations and free episodic sections.
