The Path is a short rhapsody for solo tuba written as part of my project to take on “mini-commissions” for unaccompanied works during the spring and summer of 2020.

The Path begins with an expressive introduction leading into a slow section that uses irregular, asymmetric meters to depict the uneven footsteps of someone who is unsure where they are going next. The material from the introduction is developed further as the music builds into a dramatic cadenza before finally finding its way back to a reprise of the earlier “walking” music.
