[shift-9] for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and piano
Second Prize, Webster University Young Composers Competition
An open parenthesis indicates the start of a new idea offset from a phrase. [“shift-9”] is the exploration of this idea in motion. A thought is conceived, initial sketches are laid out, and indecision sets in as to how to progress. Following resets and rewrites, the idea springs to life and culminates in a refined final statement.
