Scherzettino for clarinet quartet (duration: 1’30”)

Scherzettino is a very short, light piece for four clarinets. Scored for an unconventional quartet of soprano, alto, bass, and contra-alto clarinets, the jaunty 3/8 theme that opens the piece is passed around the ensemble before moving into a second section with a more flowing melody. Finally, multiple layers of this theme enter and build tension until the opening music returns in a frantic rush to the end!
