Commissioned by the Next Generation Trumpet Competition

Mercurial is based on a simple five-note ostinato that runs continuously through the entire piece. Beginning with a lively mixed-meter section, this theme is then transformed into the backdrop for a lyrical interlude. More mixed meter and lightning-fast runs lead back to the soaring lyrical melody, now overlaid on the original ostinato before reprising the opening for an exciting conclusion.
