Desolation Earth for solo piano (duration: 8′)
Desolation Earth is a one-movement piece for solo piano written in response to the ever-growing climate crisis our planet is currently facing. The piece’s first section, What does the end of the world look like?, captures a single moment in time in which this slowly developing catastrophe looms silently over the unknowing observer. However, it does not remain silent for long—the devastation wrought upon the planet by the effects of climate change is shown in full force in the second section, Terminus. A glimmer of hope is offered in the third and final section, We’re not finished here…, but the piece’s forceful conclusion ultimately signals that this is not an issue that will be easily resolved.
