Overture for Seven Players for flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, horn, bass clarinet, and bassoon (duration: 5’30”)
Overture for Seven Players is a short piece for wind septet styled as an “overture” for a nonexistent larger work. Beginning with a light, quick oboe solo, the theme is passed around the ensemble and developed before undergoing various transformations. The fast-paced opening music evolves as time continues, with entrances of the theme overlapping and becoming more frantic until it crashes into what seems to be a sudden, gentle close. However, a high-energy tag emerges and brings the piece to its true conclusion.
