Concatenation for saxophone quartet (duration: 5′)
for ~Nois
con•cat•e•na•tion (n)
Concatenation is, in a word, a concatenation (definition 1)—a series of episodes that themselves demonstrate concatenation (definition 2). Envisioned as a “game” for the quartet, the piece challenges the ensemble’s and audience’s perception of time as the music alternates between two contrasting ideas: a loud aleatoric figure and a soft microtonal afterimage.
