Impetus is an exciting, fast-paced concert opener or closer. Beginning with a canon based on a driving mixed-meter ostinato, the full band joins in one section at a time before shifting into a slow, lyrical section with solos for euphonium and flugelhorn. A cornet solo then leads the into the lively mixed-meter finale which features the percussion section and builds into a triumphant coda.
